The Kamrup district administration will not further allow anybody to encroach upon the waterbodies. Any encroachment won’t be tolerated. This was what the simple message it passed when it is carrying out an eviction drive at Deeport Beel area.
Launched on Tuesday, the major drive reached Pamohi river to ensure smooth flow of flood water from the city to the two major water-bodies.
Led by an additional Kamrup Metro deputy commissioner, the drive on Tuesday demolished 6-foot-high wall of school a few days after the Azara Circle Officer filed an FIR at Gorchuk Police Station.
“We have already cleared five elephant corridors. Pachyderms have been using these corridors to reach Deepor Beel. For this, we had to demolished 20 other permanent constructions, including shops,” a senior officer told Assam Times.
“We have further asked Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) to shift its garbage disposal site from Paschim Boragaon within the next three months. This is the best possible way to maintain the ecological balance of the water body,” said the officer.
