NRC: SC unhappy with Assam govt

The Supreme Court is unhappy with the Assam Government’s affidavit on the measures to update the NRC.

A division bench of the apex court comprising Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice and RF Nariman found some flaws in the affidavit and asked for a fresh one within the next 10 days.

The court made it clear that it would continue to monitor the implementation of some of its directions.

“If need be, you can take help of Chief Secretary to prepare the fresh affidavit,” the court told the counsel.

The court issued the directives on Tuesday when it was hearing a writ petition jointly filed by the Assam Public Works (APW) and All Assam Students’ Union (AASU).
