1,167 private schools: Borkotoky

Assam has currently 1,167 private schools, excluding play schools, and 420 private junior colleges are in the state.

Education minister Sarat Borkotoky told the House on Tuesday that the government permits a private education institute to start operations if it has own land.

A private institute has to fulfill the norms under The Assam Non-Government Educational Institution (Regulation and Management) Act 2006 and Rule 2007. For elementary education, permission has to be obtained under RTE Act 2009," said the minister.
