Assembly polls before May ’16

Days are not far for assembly polls in Assam. The Election Commission is fully prepared to hold the next assembly polls before May 2016.

Talking to reporters in Guwahati on Tuesday, Chief Election Commissioner HS Brahma said that the country’s poll panel would hold the polls in time.

He said that all voters would get identity cards this time which would be required to exercise their franchise. According to Brahma, the Commission has so far issued Identity card to 95 percent electorates.

“We have started a National Voters' Service Portal to enable a voter can to find his or her name, address, polling station etc. online and can rectify the same from any part of the world,” said Brahma.
