Most of the city based media persons have shown impressive health status when they attended a day-long general health check-up camp, organized by Dispur Hospital in Guwahati Press Club on Wednesday (11 March 2015).

Over hundred journalists with their close relatives participated in the health camp and received consultations from the attending doctors and got the benefits of blood sugar test, lipid profile, ECG and thyroid check. The attending doctors of Dispur Hospital including Dr Brajendra Lahkar (medicine), Dr TA Choudhury (nephrology), Dr Dippy Aggarwal (gynaecology), Dr PK Bhatta (orthopaedics), Dr Chandan Modak (cardiology) with Dr Abhishek Debnath, Dr HK Bordoloi and Dr Banajit Chaudhury checked the health status of the participants.

Dr Jayanta Bardoloi, chairman cum managing director of Dispur Hospitals Pvt Ltd, Ganeshguri, Guwahati-6, also attended the camp and declared concessional rate of treatment for media persons in his hospital. Dr Bardoloi also announced that the needy journalists would get free treatment at Dispur Hospital all along the year. Journalists in need may contact Ujjal Saikia, public relation officer of the hospital, to get the benefit of the scheme.

The nursing staff was led by Minu Chetia, where Eyasmin Sultana, Rina Buragohain, Pranita Hajda, Laita Baishya, Bonti Barua supported the physicians in the camp. The laboratory technicians included Md Sariful Haque, Pranjal Borah and Ariful Hussain. Similarly Mondip Borkataky, Deben Shah, Haren Das extended supports in arranging the camp.

Guwahati Press Club has also tied up with Dispur Hospitals Pvt Ltd for a Hepatitis B and Typhoid vaccination for the member-journalists in the next few weeks. Interested media persons are requested to contact the office of the press club for the date of vaccination and other relevant procedures.

NO BJP vote in RS poll

Another rhino poaching in Kaziranga

Rhino poaching seems to have recurred in Kaziranga. A female rhinoceros was found dead with gunshot wounds and its horn removed in the Kaziranga National Park on Friday.The horn is off from the carcass near Dhanbari camp under Agratoli range by forest guards, taking the total number of the pachyderms killed this year to 25. Three bullet injuries were spotted on the carcass and three used cartridges of an AK-47 rifle were found from the spot.

Book release: Oronyot Boroxun

A book based on a screenplay of an unfinished cinema by late Mrinalkanti Das titled Oronyot Boroxun (Rain in the Forest) released at a function at Guwahati Press Club on the Friday. Noted writer Apurba Sarma formally relased the book.Long back in 2004, cinematographer-director Mrinalkanti Das planned to make a feature film. But he met with an accident while going for location hunt. He expired in that accident and his dream debut film as director remained unfinished. “Mayong: Myth/Reality” chosen for UK archive, Kerala, Gandhinagar fests

In what can be termed as a welcome news for the Assamese film industry, “Mayong: Myth/Reality”, directed by Utpal Borpujari and produced by Jayanta Goswami, will be archived by the Royal Anthropological Institute (RAI) of Great Britain and Ireland so that researchers and academicians associated with cultural ethnography studies can access the documentary.A communication to this effect has been sent to Borpujari by Susanne Hammacher, film officer with the RAI. “We will take the film up to Edinburgh and it will be available in the video library and for any future visitors at the RAI for consultation,” she informed Borpujari. Achievement likely for Manish

Another Assam youth Manish Kumar Deka is likely to climb the great mountain on Sunday. Deka would be taking a shot at the summit.The new achievement is set to strike a day after Tarun Saikia created history by becoming the first Assamese to conquer Mt Everest.Tarun Saikia hailing from Guwahati had scaled the highest peak at 5-30 am on Saturday along with five others. HS results on Monday

The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council is all set to announce the HS results in all streams on Monday. The results would be available for all at 10 in the morning. Students can view the results through online websites on the mentioned date, for the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) which conducted the examination in the month of March 2013. Candidates can view their results by entering their roll code and roll number in http://resultsassam.nic.in/. Properties worth twenty lakhs were reduced to ashes when a devastating fire broke out at a car workshop in Dibrugarh district on Sunday.The fire took place at Laipuli early in the morning due to electric short circuit which later engulfed the entire workshop. Police took several hours to bring the situation under control. The real extent of damage is yet to be ascertained.

AIUDF names Aminul for RS poll

The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has announced that party General Secretary Aminul Islam would be its candidate for the second seat in the forthcoming Rajya Sabha polls in Assam. Elections will be held to fill up the vacancies which have arisen due to the expiry of the term of office of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who is a Rajya Sabha member from Assam, and AGP MP Kumar Deepak Das on June 14 next.
