The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) will stage a state-wide protest on Tuesday demanding constitutional safeguard for the indigenous people.
AASU Advisor Dr Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya told reporters in Guwhati on Sunday that they would not compromise constitutional safeguard for the indigenous people as per the Assam Accord.
“With this state wide protest, we once again want to mount pressure on the government to listen to us seriously,”said Dr Bhattacharya..
He further accused the state government of trying to confuse the people on the issue of constitutional safeguards to the indigenous people citing an absence of a proper definition of the Assamese.
"It is not the question of definition which we are talking of. The definition will matter only in respect of seat reservation for indigenous people," Bhattacharya old reporters.
