Prisoner killing brews anger in Assam

Tension starts escalating in Dimapur after a group of local Naga youths lynched a Samin Khan after the prisoner was dragging out of the jail on Friday.

Various organizations in Nagaland and Assam have vehemently condemned the incident alleging that the law is not allowed to take its own course.

“Since he was an accused. It was for the court to convict him and to fix the quantum of punishment. But the goons have mercilessly lynched him on the street. It is barbarous indeed,” said Tajimuddin.

Animsh Das, a college student in Kohima blamed it all on the district authorities saying that how the goon managed to storm into the jail despite heavy security.

“The mob forcibly stormed in to the jail, dragged the prisoner out of it, dressed out Khan to be lynched on the street. Where was the administration?” said Das who is on a visit to the commercial city in Nagaland.

“The authority must take the responsibility for the barbaric incident where rape accused was lynched by mob on the street. Who was guarding the jail where goons can drag out a prisoner to be killed openly?” said Drishti Baruah in Dimapur who works with a private office.

He said the government should institute a high level probe to put the goons behind the bar.

The bizarre incident took place in the morning where the goons dragged the resident of Karimganj to the street to be stripped off and then killed alleging that he rape a college girl last month.
