Sea of humanity in Hajo

The bulbul fight is now a thing of the past for Hajo. But the people in the pilgrim town in the outskirt of Guwahati  are not at all worried over it if the magh bihu festivity is any indication.

The entire township broke in to a sea of humanity on Friday when AASU organized a traditional fuction in the pilgrim township.

Local tresidents made a 2 KM long queue on both sides of the road when a huge cultural procession passed off peacefully in the morning.

Organized by the local AASU unit, the colourful troup began from Puwamokka, the most visited shrine for ther Hindus and Muslims and ended at the Madhav temple premises to be joined by thousand others who visited the ancient temple on the fist days of the festive month in the Assamese calender.

Talking to Asam Times, local resident said,” we are not upset at all after the authorities  banned the bulbul fight. That’s not all for us to showcase. We have lots more of the proud of.”

“Yea, I did my best to train participate in the traditional bird fight. But only to be disappointed  after the event was abandoned halfway after so much preparation for the same. I free the bords as soon as I came to confirm the ban. Now we have this function and procession to coompensate the loss,” said Mohendra Kalita.
