A string of untoward incidents marred the 12 hour statewide Assam bandh on Friday evening.
Adivasi people in large number came to the streets in many places to enforce the bandh they called for in protest against the NDFB(S) carnage in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur on Tuesday evening.
The bandh was total. Vehicles remained off from the roads. Shops and markets, schools and colleges, banks and offices registered thin attendance under the impact of the bandh which ended at 6 in the evening.
A section of protesters burnt tryes on the roads to block the movement of the vehicles. The bandh forced the Northeast Frontier Railway to reschedule several trains on Friday.
In Guwahati also, the bandh evoked full response. Barring a skeleton ASTC bus services, other private city buses refused to ply from the morning. The state secretariat registered thin attendance.
