A seismic wave of protest hits the state a day after Dr Subramanima Swamy asked the Bangladeshi immigrants to convert to Hinduism if they want to stay in Assam. Muslim people in large number took to the streets in the various places across the state in protest against the BJP leader’s comment.
Congress, AGP leaders are set to oppose Dr Sawamy in a day or two while the state BJP leaders are also not prepared to react immediately.
“Don’t spear communal tension in Assam. Let us live in peace. Why Dr Swamy is targeting the immigrants whom he wants to be converted to Hinduism, “said a protester who took to the streets in Guwahati on Sunday.
Another protester told Assam Times,” BJP is known for communal politics. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is saying one thing. But a senior party leader was allowed to say differently. We won’t allow these to happen.”
“It would do more harm than good. Immigrants are immigrants ---Hindu or Muslims matter. They must quit India. But Dr Swamy’s formula is quit communal and it hurts our sentiments,” said a protester.

Assam Govt should have arrested Swamy for creating communal tension and prosecuted according to Law of the Land.
The problem is we need a Lalu Prasad, who had the guts to arrest LK Advani in Bihar during his infamous rathyatra.

urity forces arrested three NDFB cadres in Guwahati on Wednesday night. The trio were picked up during a joint operation at the Inter State Bus Terminal in Guwahati and nabbed the militants on the way to Myanmar via Dimapur. Police said that the militants had used Guwahati as their transit base. They were identified as Laisui Basumutary, Joangsar Basumutary and Astomi Basumutary. The Assam government has recommended CBI probe into the rhino poaching incidents that repeatedly rocks Kaziranga National Park. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday said that the state government had already written to CBI for probe into the recent rhino poaching incidents in KNP. He said that it might be a big political conspiracy into the big horn animal killings, where militants are also involved. The move came 24 hours after poachers killed ome more rhino in the word heritage site. Assam had lost at least 42 rhinos in 2012, where poachers killed 21 rhinos in KNP. In this year, poachers killed seven rhinos in Kaziranga.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday said that the Assam State Police Accountability Commission would be set up in several areas to ensure better public participation in accountability and transparency at various levels of police hierarchy.Gogoi told reporters in Guwahati that the panel now based in Guwahati will have a forum each in upper Assam, north bank of river Brahmaputra and Barak Valley in south Assam for the convenience of people. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday moved Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh seeking his intervention in the construction of three dams on the upstream of the Brahmaputra. In a letter to the Prime Minster, Gogoi pointed out that though the Chinese Government had given assurance that they would take care of the interest of downstream areas, the State Government has apprehensions that it might affect the State.Gogoi in his letter said that the ‘entire Assam economy East is dependent on the Brahmaputra and that the construction of three new dams on the upstream of the river might affect the interest of the region in the downstream areas.

In a bizarre incident that rocked the entire state, two criminals broke into the Morigaon district Chief Judicial Magistrate's court and stole files relating to criminal cases on Thursday night. Police arrested the duo on Friday.The windows were broken and 30 files were stolen to be thrown away in a nearby drain. One of the criminals Bimal Hazarika, however, left behind his wallet from where his driving license was found by police this morning. Police immediately tracked him along with his accomplice Asim Bordoloi and arrested them. The 30 files were recovered from the drain and returned to the court.
