Amend outdated Assam Accord: Dr Swamy

BJP leader Dr Subramaniam Swamy strongly advocates amendment in the Assam Accord to force Bangladesh to take back its immigrants.

Addressing a press conference in Guwhati on Saturday, the veteran BJP leader said that the Accord was outdated that it should be amended. According to him, a new clause should be amended in the Accord empowering New Delhi to take action against Bangladesh if it refuse to to take back illegal migrants.

He, however, said that the an immigrant, if covert to Hindu, should be allowed to stay. “Otherwise sealing of the Indo-Bangladesh border is not a solution to the influx problem that cripples the country, he said.

“Let us tell Bangladesh that there would be dire consequences if it does not cooperate in the deportation of the infiltrators,” said Dr Swamy.
