Yet another blow awaits the common people. Power tariff will hike which generates statewide protest on Saturday a day after the Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission approved it.
The hike to be enforced from December 1 is an average 13.1 per cent. According to the AERC, the increase in the tariff for different consumer categories ranges from around 7 per cent to 18 per cent. The consumers have been paying a fuel and power purchase price adjustment (FPPPA) charge of Rs 0.36 from July.
The domestic consumers will have to pay an additional amount at the rate of Rs 0.31 to Rs 0.74 per unit, depending on the rate of consumption. Some other domestic consumers will have to pay the enhanced tariff at the rate of Rs 0.74 per unit. But the BPL consumers will have to pay the additional tariff at the rate of Rs 0.21 per unit instead of a subsidy of Rs 1.10 per unit. The people of all walks of life are set to hit the streets demanding immediate roll back of the new tariff.
