President Pranab Mukherjee stressed value based education that shapes the destiny of a nation mired in poverty, social disorder and economic malaise.
In his address at the 12th Convocation of the Tezpur Central University on Thursday, he said that a strong education system is required for superior knowledge. He institutions only a few institutions deserve a better position while many others have been lagging in international rankings.
In his address, Governor JB Patnaik said that knowledge loses its purpose unless it is connected with the people.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal also graced on the occasion. Sonowal assured the university authorities that he would take up the matter to open up a campus of Tezpur University at Jonai. Earlier, Mukherjee landed at the Salonibari airport to be received by chief minister Tarun Gogoi, Governor JB Patnaik.
