Rhino carcass found in Manas

RUPAK DAS, BAKSA: After a brief lull, rhino poaching has struck Manas National Park. Forest guards recovered the carcass of a full grown rhino at Dauzeng of the Bhuyapara range of the national park on Saturday. The horn of the animal which was believed to have been killed two or three days back was missing. The carcass bore three injury marks. The rhino was brought to this park along with four others from the Pabitara wildlife sanctuary in 2012 under the project Indian Rhino Vision-2020(IRV-2020). With this, the number of rhinos killed in this park has gone up to 8.

Deer horn recovered

Sasastra Seema Bal (SSB) posted along the Indo-Bhutan border at Dholkola and Tukribasti under Haltugaon forest division recovered a Deer horn in an operation conducted on Sunday in Kokrajhar district. 

SSB jawans from 16th Battalion (Bn) conducted an operation against poacher and smuggler inside deep forest area of the Haltugaon division and accordingly managed to recovery of a Deer horn, besides destroying of some objectionable goods that used by poachers in the operation. The recovered horn was handed over to forest department official at Ultapani Range office.The present market value of the recovered horn was to be 10,000 and search operation against smuggler and poaching would be continued in the region, said a senior SSB official in Kokrajhar.

Two Scribes physically assaulted at Barpeta by police personnel

Two senior scribes
of Barpeta, Priya Ranjan Das, president, Barpeta press club vs.
journalist of Barpeta and Nabajit Das, staff correspondent, Asomiya
Pratidin, Barpeta were physically assaulted by one inspector of police and police constable at
Barpeta press club premises last night. At the sudden attack of the
intoxicated police the journalists of Barpeta were at a loss and
informed the incident to the district administration as well as the
police administration. According to report said that after the enjoyment
of India-Pakistan cricket, at Barpeta press club along with other
journalists Priya Ranjan Das, president Barpeta press club, on the way
to his home face to face with the police checking at Barpeta Panch-Ali
chowk. But in the name of checking the motor-bike police
group ill- behaved him even after showing them the press card.The police
personnel’s were intoxicated and tried to take him to the police
station at that moment. Priya Ranjan das informed about the matter in
the other members of Barpeta press club who were busy at that moment for
the preparation of a programme on 1st April/11 ‘ Meet The Press’ with the election Candidates of the district. While the journalists were discussing about the matter a group of police personnels came to the Barpeta press club and physically assaulted Priyaranjan Das and Nabajit Das at the press club premises.

The police personnel involved in the said act, identified as – Tulu Mani Bora, Ajay Barman, Badri Prasad Baruwati who were the probationary police inspector and asstt
Inspector of police Labanya Rajkhowa. As soon as the incident occurred
the additional SP barpeta Mihirjit Gayan and Tilak Ch Deka, OC, Barpeta
PS rushed to Barpeta press club and assured the journalists of Barpeta
to punish the police personnels who were involved in this incident.

FIR was lodged against the police personnel by the Barpeta press club.The MLA of
Sarukshetry LAC and congress candidate Dr. Tara Prasad Das, and people
of various organizations of Barpeta gathered at Barpeta press club
premises and regretted for such type of unavoidable situation. A
memorandum was also submitted to the Home secy, Assam and DGP, Assam
through the DC Barpeta and SP Barpeta.

Meanwhile, various
organizations of Barpeta district condemned for the attack upon the scribes of
Barpeta. Barpeta District Union of Working Journalists, Journalists
Union of Assam, Barpeta Sub division journalists Union, Bahari press
club, Kayakuchi press club, Barpeta road press club, Barpeta district
AASU, Asom Sena, Barpeta, AGP, Barpeta, Asom Pradesh Youth Congress,
AJYCPJ etc organizations condemned for the sudden attack upon the fourth
estate of the constitution of India and urged to punish the guilty police personnel immediately.

Manas NP expanded to 850

The Manas National Park (MNP) has got nod of approval for addition of 350 from Governor of Assam under Chirang division in west part of the National Park. Governor approved the first addition to Manas national Park yesterday under section 35 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972(as amended up to date) which facilitates welfare of the expansion of the national park in the BTAD as well lower Assam districts.

Speaking the reporters at BTC Secretariat conference hall today,BTC deputy chief Kampa Borgoyary, who is also Forest in-charge told that Manas NP has now expanded to 850 after getting addition 350 which was approved by Governor of Assam. The Manas NP was first declared as World Heritage site in 1985 and since then it has been regarded best tourist spot in the region.

He said, ‘BTAD administration and forest department have been working to protect natural resources and wildlife through which today national park gained its attraction and conservation in the state. BTAD administration and forest department have been demanded addition land to make more sustained of the park since three years back and yesterday Governor cleared needy steps to the addition of land to the western area which connect Chirang division’.

Kampa said adding that addition of land will meet healthy livelihood of wildlife and natural beautification through pave way more area in its stability.

Borgoyary thanked Governor, state government and departmental staffs for making courageous step for conservation of forest wildlife as national park. He also said that forest department has been initiating to gain more attractive in the MNP by adopting new projects.

Borgoyary, replying to question on forest protection said that forest department has been taking stern step to check illegally destruction of forest trees and natural scenes. Forest department officials today seized three laden trucks which were illegally brought by timber smugglers on national highways.

He said BTC forest department was working to protect forest and wildlife after having transferred department under clause of BTC accord. There is a good communication with state government while discharging duty ad responsibility of the line departments in the region, Borgoyary told. He also said that forest has been decided to evict illegally encroached along forest area and strict actions are taking against deforestation in the region.
