The Assam Human Rights Commission directed Dispur to set up constitute a high level committee to probe the recent road mishap in Koliabor where nine persons dead and 26 others injured. A single bench of the commission comprising member Tarun Phookan issued notice to Chief Secretary on Tuesday when it took suo moto cognizance of a news report on the mishap where the Assam State Transport Corporation bus bearing No AS-20-1436 fell into a deep gorge at Uluwoni near the Kaliabhomora Bridge on the Brahmaputra in Nagaon at around 1.30 A.M enroute Guwahati from North Lakhimpur. The Government had already ordered for an enquiry to be conducted departmentally into the said bus disaster with announcement of ex-gratia to the next of kin of each of those killed and free treatment to the others who sustained injuries. But this Commission takes exception to the reports of revelation regarding want/shortage of the emergent medical services with inadequate medical personnel, medicines, bandages, cottons and even fuel of on-duty Ambulance Vehicle.
