Explosion averted in Chirang; bombs defused

HANTIGIRI NARZARY, KOKRAJHAR: The people of Bangnamari in Chirang has a narrow escape from  major tragedy when army defused two powerful grenades planted by the miscreants on Friday.

According to police, suspected NDFB-S militants planted the two-grenades in the area in the wee hours. But the grenades refused to explode. Army jawans later defused the grenades at a safe place in the morning.

Ultimatum ends; AASU on satyagraha

AASU’s 12 hour ultimatum is over. Soobodh Biswas is still on the run 5 days after he incited the violence in Silapothat where a local AASU office was ransacked. The state’s influential student body is on a statewide Satyagraha in protest against the failure to nab the Silapothar culprit.

AASU workers in the district and sub divisional headquarters started satyagraha from morning on Friday raising doubts over the sincerity of the government to hold Biswas. AASU served the 12 hour ultimatum to the chief minister on Wednesday.

Rail blockade delays trains in Goalpara

Normal train services to and from Guwahati was left paralyzed on Thursday when over 500 people blocked a new Delhi bound train in Dudhnoi alleging government failure to rescue to teachers who were kidnapped from Assam-Meghalaya border last month.


Braving incessant rains, protestors representing altogether 8 local organizations blocked the train in the morning which forced the Northeast Frontier Railway to reschedule the trains in the morning session. Shouting slogans, the protestors alleged the government’s inaction to rescue the two teachers namely Sarit Rabha and Kameswar Rabha last month from the Assam-Meghalaya border.
