The Centre keeps Assam on alert along with West Bengal apprehending terror attacks by the followers of Osama bin Laden. Acting on IB reports, home ministry sent letter bearing No Ref No 3627-60 and 3698-3731/C&R Cell-C-2/S11) to Dispur fearing attack by Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh, HUJI, Ansarullah Bangla Team and Jamaat-ul-Muslimeen. These groups are believed to have been targeting the prominent places in the country to foment communal tensions in Assam. Assam shares long porous borders with Bangladesh, terror groups belonging to the would engineer bomb blasts at important commercial hubs like stock exchanges, airports, railways, popular religious places and the BJP offices. According to sources, the jihadis trained in the lower Assam districts planned to fan out all over the country and create havoc in Karnataka, Kerala, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, J& and Delhi.
