Centre wants detail assessment

Union home minister Rajnath Singh said that the Centre was expecting a detailed memorandum from Dispur to ascertain the amount of central fund to tide over the flood fury.

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati after touring the flood-hit Goalpara and Kamrup(rural), Singh said that an inter-ministerial team would assess the total extent of damage by the flood waves.

Singh said, “I met both chief ministers Tarun Gogoi and Mukul Sangma and discussed the situation, and have asked them to send a detailed memorandum each. An inter-ministerial team will then come for a final assessment, after which the Centre will provide maximum possible support.,”

The Centre’s share in the disaster relief fund is 75 per cent, with the states having to contribute the remainder, he told the reporters.
