Finally President Pranab Mukherjee is believed to have endorsed the idea of avoiding a huge group of media men in his foreign trip. Mukherjee is has reportedly asked his officials not to include a larger media team on his next visit to Norway and Finland later this month. Only a few journalists representing Doordarshan, All India Radio, Photo Division, Films Division with PTI, UNI and ANI is likely to accompany Mukherjee. Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier decided to avoid a huge group of journalists while on foreign trips arguing that it serves little purposes. All Assam Media Employees Federation (AAMEF) welcomes the President’s decision. “The views of Modi were reflected in Assam and northeast India time and again, where the accompanying journalists (with the President or Prime Minister) to foreign countries hardly did their jobs. Most of them hired the scripts of the news agencies to fulfill their commitments,” said an AAMEF statement. AAMEF argued that the Union government should adopt some comprehensive schemes for the benefit of the working journalists and media employees of the country. The AAMEF further thinks that Centre should reconstitute the Press Council of India as the media council incorporating the electronic media under its purview. The new council should also be empowered to raise voices adequately for the due benefit of media employees under the country’s existing laws.
