Union home minister Rajnath Singh left Guwahati on Wednesday evening ending his day long visit to the flood-hit Goalpara and Kamrup (rural district) where at least 35 people lost their lives.
Singh made an aerial survey from a chopper in the flood-hit Krishnai, Dudhnoi, Nonoi in Goalpara district where over 20 people lost their lives. Then he proceeded to Kamrup (rural) district where the flood fury claimed 10 lives in Boko.
Before leaving for Lucknow, Singh met chief minister Tarun Gogoi at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport who apprised him of the entire situation. Singh announced Rs 286 cr share of central fund for Assam and assured of more funds after the receipt of the detail report on the extent of damage.
This is for the first time Singh visited the state after assuming charge as home minister in the Narendra Modi government. Last week, he sent Kiren Rijiju and Sarbananda Sonowal to take stock of the situation.
