Flood: Rajnath talks to Gogoi

The Centre has assured the Assam government of all help to deal with the flood fury that claimed 30 people during the last four days.

In his telephonic conversation with chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday, Union home minister Rajnath Singh said that the Centre would extend all possible assistance to the state for rescue and relief of flood-affected areas.

Rescue and relief teams operations are underway at Boko, Goalpara, Guwahati, Sonitpur, North Lakhimpur, Tinsukia and Dhemaji.

SEBA announces HSLC results

Achyut Ranjan Gogoi of Nazira Jatiya Vidyalaya tops the HSLC examination conducted by SEBA in February this year. Gogoi, whose parents are teacher of a local school obtained 585 marks out of 600.

The second position goes to Jyoti Krishna Kumar Kalita from Maloubari HS School in Sonapur in the outskirt of Guwahati.

Smitaxi Goswami from Salt Brooke Academy in Dibrugarh shares third position with Anajit Roy of Korrajhar Babylang School and Sannidhya Sarma of BVCL, Namrup.

Upasana Deka from BP Baruah Memorial HS School in Sonari and Jyotirmoy Sakia of LBS Sishu Niketon in Demow and Bhargav Kakoti from Diphu have jointly secured fourth position.

Trishna Bora of Holly Child school in Guwahati and Swagoto Ashrafi from Goalpara have secured the fifth position.

The names were announced at a press conference at the SEBA office premises on Wednesday morning.

Assembly begins winter session

Amid intense debate, attacks and counter attack between ruling and the Opposition, the Assam assembly begins its winter session on Monday.

The government is taking full advantage of the divided Opposition on several issues. AGP, BJP and AIUDF have been maintaining different stand on vital issues like land swap deal, mega dam, ration in tea gardens. The five day long winter session began with the question hour at 9 in the morning to be followed by other business.  

 

MTFA militants held in Chirang

Security forces in Kokrajhar district captured two militants of Muslim Tiger Force of Assam from Kursyakati in Kokrajhar district on Friday.
Identified as Haider Ali and Habibur Rahman, the duo were arrested during a joint raid by police and para military forces who further seized a country made riffle from their possession.
