Flood situation turns grim in Goalpara, Dhubri, Lakhimpur and Guwahati city with more and more areas coming under the rain and river waters.

Army and NDRF jawans are on relief and rescue operations in Goalpara a day after the cloudburst in Meghalaya brought devastating flood waves leaving at least 15 people dead and over four hundred clueless.

The authorities in Golapara and Dhubri have urged the Indian Air Force to help them ensure rescue of the marooned people in the entire worst-hit district where flood waters are flowing above the tin and thatched roofs. Surface com

munication remains completely disrupted after the flood waters covered the vital roads and bridges.

A number of bridges is believed to have been washed away on Sunday and Monday. In Guwahati also, the people in Anil Nagar, Lachit Nagar, Nabin Nagar, Chandmari have hardly any respite even after the authorities set up relief camps on Monday. Rainswaters start receding from early in the morning.

But the bylanes are still reeling under the rainwater. Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner has been monitoring the situation who has asked his team of officers to rush to the flood-hit areas in the city.
