Govt promises Unicode panel

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has announced a broad-based panel to study the computational intricacies of the Assamese writing script in the Unicode standard.

Comprising linguists, IT specialists-language technologists, domain specialists, IT experts from universities, information technology and cultural affairs departments, the committee would go into the computational intricacies of the Unicode script and the uniqueness of the Assamese script.

Gogoi, further has asked for a detail report from the IT Department, the Cultural Affairs Department and AMTRON.

He also asked Chief Secretary Jitesh Khosla to formulate the future course of action in this connection to ensure a place for the Assamese script in the Unicode standard.
