Silchar polling ends; counting on Tuesday

Polling is over in Silchar. The fate of 12 bypoll candidates has been sealed in the electronic voting machines. According to initial report, the voting percentage was 76 till 5 in the afternoon.

The election commission confirmed that the polling was by and large peaceful. There is no report of any major anomalies and untoward incident during this period.

The constituency has 206,573 voters who have decided on the fate of 12 candidates. The contest is straight between BJP's Dilip Paul and the Congress's Arun Dutta Mazumder.

The bye-election was necessitated following the election of Silchar Congress MLA Sushmita Dev. The counting will take place from 8 in the morning on Tuesday.
