OIL feels heat of Moranhat explosion

 The Oil India Limited feels the heat of the Singijan incident where four people died and four others have been battling for life.

Local residents told Assam Times that a routine check up on the high powered gas pipeline could have averted the explosion. But that was not done.

Prafulla Das, a local resident alleged it an example of sheer negligence of the OIL authority which was why, the explosion took place because of technical fault. “If there was any technical fault, it could have been checked and properly repaired. Then the disaster could have been averted,” he said.

Parinita Saikia, a government employee told Assam Times that these high powered LPG pipeline should be installed not in the residential areas.

“We lack farsightedness. That’s what the big problem with us. I am not blaming the OIL authorities alone. We should not have allowed them to install these pipelines in this densely populated areas,” she said.

Nava Bhumij, a tea garden worker demanded adequate compensation for the victims’ family members. Speaking to Assam Times he said that OIL authority must pay Rs 20 lakh in the name of the deceased.

“The injured must get Rs 5 lakh for treatment and rehabilitation apart from another Rs 10 lakh to help them rebuild the houses which were reduced to ashes in the blazing inferno,” he said.
