Rains wreaking havoc in Guwahati

Rain waters are back in Guwahati to wreak havoc after a heavy down pour lashed the city on Wednesday.

The rains that lashed the city for nearly an hour began at 3 in the afternoon to be followed by massive waterlogging in many parts towards the evening.

Parts of the Guwahati-Shillong Road have been caught in the waterlogging to result in a huge traffic snarl for several hours.

Roads and bylanes in Tarun Nagar, Lachit Nagar, Anil Nagar and Nabin Nagar areas have come under the rainwaters forcing the vehicles to halt.

The picture is not different in the busy RG Baruah Road which was submerged near the Assam State Zoo to be followed by the paralyzing traffic snarl in the afternoon.

The rainwaters further threaten to spill into the MLA Hostel in Dispur if this condition remains unchanged. The MLA Hostel faced similar situation around 15 days back.

Karbi king caught on rape charge

The Hamren police in Karbi Anglong on Tuesday have arrested a titular Karbi king acting on a rape charge against him. The victim  is a mother of four children whom he raped before asking her not to disclose.

According to allegations, the 52 year old titular King Horsingh Ronghang visited her recently at night at raped the 32 year woman and left in the morning.

Ronghang, the influential Karbi leader asked the victim to keep mum and threatened the victim of untold consequences if she makes it.

This has forced the couple to move to local people who suggested the victim to file a formal complaint with the police.

Acting on the complaint, the Hamren police on Monday called up Ronghang to be arrested early in the morning.

“Immediately  after we registered the case we called up Ronghang when he turned up he was arrested,” said a police official in Hamren where he was initially detained.

Ronghang is believed to have openly confessed to have committed the crime.

4 killed in Tezpur mishap

y at Bishwanath Ghat last night, turned turtle near Panibharal area of Bishwanath Chariali town in the morning, killing four on the spot.

Among the 26 injured, 16 were admitted to Bishwanath Chariali Civil Hospital but 13 of them were referred to Tezpur Kanaklata Civil Hospital after their condition became critical.
The dead have been identified as 45-year Durga Chetry, 20-year old Krishna Chetry, 18-year old Gopal Chetry and 12-year-old Pinky Sarma.  The vehicle, which was overloaded and speeding, turned turtle four times before rolling down the side of the road.

Body recovered in Kokrajhar

Sensation prevails in Kokrajhar following the recovery of a body on Thursday morning.
Local residents in North Kashibari village spotted the ody from the Tarang River early in the morning sending sensation in the entire area.
The body was on decomposed to be brought to kokrajhar for post mortem.
