The overall flood situation remains grim on Sunday a day after two minor boys met watery grave in Lakhimpur and Nagaon districts.
The water levels of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries have been rising for the last few days inundating vast tracts of land in upper Assam.
The worst-affected areas include Lakhimpur, Dhemaji and Sonitpur districts. Flood waters washed away a minor boy at Naoboicha area of Lakhimpur on Saturday.
Another shocking incident took place at Kampur in Nagaon district where a minor boy met watery grave.
In Lakhimpur, nearly one lakh people in seven circles have been affected in six revenue circles of Dhakuakhona, Naoboicha, Bihpuria, Narayanpur, North Lakhimpur and Subansiri by the rising water of the Ranganadi.
District administration has intensified relief rescue operation in the affected areas.
Flood has also risen in the rivers Sarigharia, Koha, Kumotia and Gainodi resulting in the damage of several hectares of standing crops.
In Dhemaji district more than 70 villages have been submerge by the flood water of the Brahmaputra and one relief camp has been opened by the district administration.
In Sonitpur, the Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level has also affected three panchayats--Bordoloni, Botamuli and Paken under Gohpur sub division. //
