On 7th anniversary of the start of B.Tech program at Don Bosco College of Engineering and Technology at Azara which launched the Assam Don Bosco University, the Basic Sciences Department of ADBU launched today, 11 August 2014, Master of Science in Physics with 14 students. Another six more students are expected to join shortly.
The new course is a joint venture with the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering.
The programme opened with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and singing of Gayatri Mantra by Asst Prof Nabomita Das.
Addressing the gathering ADBU Registrar Dr Basil Koikara expressed his happiness at the growing interest seen in the pursuit of pure sciences.
Vice Chancellor Dr Stephen Mavely complimented the two departmental heads (Physics: Dr. Monmoyuri Baruah, and Electronics and Computer Engineering: Dr Sunandan Baruah who put together the new program in little over one month’s time.
DBCET Principal Dr Manoranjan Kalita said, “This is possible only in a private university.” He added, “only when pure science (physics, chemistry and mathematics) grow to its highest level of academic potential, then only knowledge can grow.”
Explaining the course structure Dr Monmoyuri said, “In the first two semesters students will do Physics, and in 3rd and 4th semester they could specialize either in Electronics and Instrumentation, or in Nano Science.
Underlining the uniqueness of the brand new ADBU course Dr Monmayuri told students, “In other universities, you will not find this combination of Electronics and Instrumentation.”
While Asst Prof. Tanvira Ismail anchored, Dr Smarat Dey coordinated the inaugural function.
This academic year saw the launch of two other Masters level program in Mass Communication, and Philosophy.
