Massive security for Independence Day
Security forces are fanning across the state in search of ULFA and NDFB(R) militants who are believed to have been waiting to strike in the run up to the Independence Day.
Policemen deployed on the roads have been checking the two and four wheelers along with the trucks and passenger buses. Massive checking is underway at the railway and bus stations.
Vital roads and bridges, Oil and gas installations are being heavily guarded to thwart attack by the militants who are believed to have entered the state to make their presence felt.
Security forces have been maintaining close vigil in the areas along the inter state border to prevent the entry of more militants these days.
Guwahati seems to have turned into a security fortress a week before the red letter day. Top ranked security officers have been monitoring the security of the Veterinary College playground in Khanapara where chief minister Tarun Gogoi will hoist the national tricolor on Friday.
A police patrolling team recovered a powerful IED a field in Nagaon district on Sunday. The IED, weighing over 1.5kg, in a tiffin box at Nij Dimou village under Bebejia police station limits in the wee hours.
The police also spotted two youth, suspected to be militants, near the field but they escaped under the cover of darkness.
