Ambubachi fair gets underway

Despite incessant rains Nilachal hilltop breaks into a sea of humanity as the ambubachi festival gets underway on Sunday.

Over 1 lakh devotees have already arrived from different parts of the country to attend the annual festival near the Kamakhya temple.

More people are expected to land in the historic place when the trains carrying the pilgrims are set to arrive in Guwahati on Sunday.

Top ranked civil and police officials have been monitoring the security scenario at the entire hill where the tourism department sponsored  festival is underway.

The doors of the ancient temple will remain closed till Thursday.
