Abdul Majid will be GPC Guest of the Month

Veteran actor-director Abdul Majid will attend the Guest of the Month program of Guwahati Press Club (GPC) on June 16 (Monday). The interactive session with the journalists will start at 3 pm. Majid was born in Jorhat in 1931 and he started his carrier in theatres in 1950 at his home town. Till date, he has performed in over two hundred plays staged in different parts of eastern India. Majid started his career in celluloid through ‘Ronga Police’ in 1957. He has also directed several movies including ‘Maram Trishna’, ‘Chameli Memsaab’, ‘Banahangsha’, ‘Bonjui’, ‘Ponakon’, ‘Uttarkaal’.

Chameli Memsaab, for which Dr Bhupen Hazarika won the national award for music direction, was awarded with Rajat Kamal in 23rdrd National Film Festival (of India) as the best film in Assamese Language.

Majid was honoured as the best director in the multilingual drama Competition held in New Delhi in 1971. He was awarded with best director’s award for Assamese television serial ‘Naamghoria’. Assam government conferred Bisnu Prashad Rabha Award on him in 1996. He was also honoured by Asom Sahitya Sabha and the Assam Tribune group. Member-journalists of the press club are requested to participate in the program.
