BJP has gained seven seats while Congress had to remain satisfied with only 3 seats. AIUDF has increased its tally from earlier 1 to 3. But AGP and AAP failed to open accounts in the Lok Sabha polls.
Union ministers Pawan Singh Ghatowar and Ranee Narah in Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur faced defeat at the hands of BJP rivals.
In Tezpur, and Nagaon BJP candidates Ram Prasad Sarma and Rajen Gohain defeated Congress candidates Bhupen Bora and Junjunali Baruah while four time Congress MP and former Union minister BK Handique was defeated by his BJP rival Kamakhya Prasad Tasha.
The consolation came for Congress from Biren Singh Ingty who retained Diphu seat after defeating his nearest rival BJP candidate Joiram Englang. Apart from that Gaurav Gogoi won Koliabor seat after a keen contest with BJP candidate MK Saikia.
In Silchar, Congress candidate Sushmita Dev defeated BJP veteran and former Union minister K Purkayastha by a small margin of votes.
Good news for BJP further came from Guwahati where Bijoya Chakrabartty defeated her Congress rival Manas Bora. Sitting BJP MP Ramen Deka retained Mangoldoi seat defeating his Congress candidate Kirip Chaliha.
Major setback for BJP is Chandra Mohan Patowary who lost to AIUDF candidate Chirajuddin Ajmal in Barpeta. AIUDF has increased its tally to 3 while the party won Karimganj with RS Biswas as candidate.
This is apart from Badaruddin Ajmal who retained Dhubri. In Kokrajhar, independent candidate and former ULFA leader Nava Sarania had the last laugh by dint of the support from the non Bodo people.
