A lower court in Rangia sent six people to jail a day after they were arrested in connection with vote rigging at a polling booth in Guwahati constituency where they were deployed on Thursday.
Identified as presiding officer Paresh Hazarika and polling officials Rakhal Chandra Choudhury, Abhay Nath Bezbarua and Rupam Malakar at Bornojora booth, they were remanded to judicial custody after Baihata police produced before the Rangia sub-divisional magistrate on Sunday.
Apart from them police produced Bimal Boro, the VDP member who pressed the EVM button on behalf of a few voters. Boro and Bidyut Saikia the video grapher where sent to jail.
Police did not seek them in their custody and the public prosecutor was not available in the court when they were produced before.
Then the court sent them to jail for 14 days.
