Bohagi Utsav at Dhupdhara

The central programme of the tenth annual Bohagi Utsav of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha will be celebrated this time at Dhupdhara in Goalpara district with a day long various programmes on April 27. The utsav which will be held at the Goalpariya bihutoli, Dhupdhara high school playground premises, will be organised under the aegis of the Sewa Bahini of the Srimanta Sankardev Sangha and in collaboration with Goalpara district committee of the Sangha. In this regard, a reception committee has been formed with Jagat Medhi as president, Subodh Kalita as working president, Jayanta Kumar Rabh as general secretary. According to the programme on April 27, a cleanliness will be took out in the morning and it will be followed by naam prasanga and plantation. At 9 am, the flag will be unfurled by Rajanikanta Dutta, the padadhikar of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha. Later at 9.30 am, the 'peetha' and 'gamocha' making competition will be held among the 'aai matri' of Bongaigaon zone. At 10 am, the souvenir will be inaugurated and it will be followed by a seminar. Dr. Anil Saikia, Bihu scholar and principal of Moran College and Tankeswar Rabha, chief executive member of Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council will participated in the seminar. Later in the afternoon 'the bihu hoonsori' competition will be held.

As many as twelve shops were gutted in a major fire that broke out at the market near NH 37 at Dudhnoi town in Goalpara District in the early hours on Friday. The fire that started accidentally in a cloth store quickly spread to ten other neighbouring shops before amassing a huge part of the market. Eight persons were killed and 40 others injured, ten of them critically, when a bus collided with a 10-wheeler truck at Rangjuli in Goalpara district on Monday.
