Braving a burning sun shine, 40 per cent of voters so far exercised their franchise in Guwahati in the third and final phase of Lok Sabha polls on Thursday.
The voters in large numbers have been waiting in long queues in front of the polling booths in the city to exercise their franchise. Jalukbari assembly constituency is expected to record huge 85 per cent turn out. Till 9 in the morning the turn out was 22 per cent.
Voters, mostly, the aged ones arrived in the booths early in the morning to cast their votes to escape the heat.
The Voting is underway peacefully in all the booths Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency with a peaceful note on Thursday. The turn out is expected to be huge in view of the rush of voters in front of the polling booths.
The voting will continue till 5 in the evening. In some places, the polling officials would find it difficult to complete the process even by 5 in the evening in view of the huge line of voters who have been waiting hours after hours to exercise their franchise.
It will be a fight between sitting BJP MP Bijoya Chakraborty and Congress candidate Manas Bora. AGP’s Birendra Prasad Baishya is also likely to give a tough fight in the constituency.
Counting will take place on May 16.
