PM coming to cast vote

Dispur turns into a security fortress a day before the third and final phase of Lok Sabha polls. Dispur Govt HS School seems to have drawn maximum concentration of the security forces.

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is all set to visit the school to exercise his franchise on Thursday. Dr Singh, who is on his last visit to the state as a prime minister, is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati Airport at 12 noon by a special plane.

Then Dr Singh, who represents Assam in the Rajya Sabha, will straightly leave for Dispur by a helicopter where he would cast his vote at the Dispur Govt HS School at around 12-30.

During his brief visit to the capital city, Dr Singh will meet chief minister Tarun Gogoi and state Congress president Bhubneswar Kalita.

A team of special protection group has already arrived in the school premises to ensure safety and security of the prime minister whom Assam adopted in 1991.

Cost of PM and his family visit for casting vote in Assam msut be recover from his personal account as voter has to trevel to electoral booth at own cost/vehical as per the People Representation Act, there is no provisin of TA/DA/others allowances to voter for casting their votes

Mridul Dutta files nomination for Khumtai LAC

The Bharataya Janata Party candidate Mridul Dutta filed his nomination today before the returning officer at golaghat for 97 no. Dergoan LAC. Blast beside Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati

Gogoi sure of poll victory

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi is confident that Congress will be able to retain Dispur. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Tuesday, Gogoi said that his party still has good base in the rural Assam. Gogoi said BPF still is an ally of Congress. He said BPF will stay with them even if Congress gets absolute majority.

CEC, ECs review Assam poll preparations

A full bench if the Election Commission is in Guwahati on a 2 day visit to Assam. led by Chief Election Commissioner, S.Y. Quraishi, the delegation met the political leaders and poll officialos to review the poll preparations.
