The Election Commission has issued a show cause notice to Nazrul Islam alleging violation of the model code of conduct by the Food and Civil Supplies Minister.
The country’s poll panel issued the notice acting on a complaints by BJP for his alleged communal remark at an election meeting in Hojai on March 21.
Dr Islam will have to reply to the notice by 11.30 am on April 15 or necessary action would be initiated against him.
According to the complaint, Islam had said that if Narendra Modi becomes Prime Minister, it would be very bad for the Muslim community. He had also said Modi became the Chief Minister of Gujarat after killing many Muslims.

The body of a tiger was discovered in the Horonbali Chapori area of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, located in Assam’s Biswanath district, on Monday.
