Brisk voting underway in Lakhimpur

The first phase of Lok Sabha polling is underway in Lakhimpur on Monday where 14,24,008 voters are exercising their franchise to decide on the fate of 13 candidates.

Long queues of voters were seen in front of the polling booths from early in the morning in Lakhimpur. Polling began at 1921 booths from 7 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon in all the booths simultaneously.

Union minister Ranee Narah is seeking fresh mandate to lock in a keen contest with BJP state president Sarbananda Sonowal.

AGP candidate Hari Prasad Dihingia is no less popular in some pockets. Tight security arrangement is in place at all polling booths to ensure free and fair polls on Monday. The counting will take place on May 16.
