Waiting for Rahul Gandhi

Amid a massive security arrangement, people thronging in thousands in Biswanath Chariali to attend Rahul Gandhi’s rally on Monday.

Security forces are fanning across the district to thwart any move by NDFB-S militants to disrupt Gandhi’s poll rally to campaign for Tezpur party candidate Bhupen Bora.

Senior party leaders told Assam Times that security forces are guarding hundreds of buses deployed by the party to ferry people to the rally at the Kamala Kanta Khetra.

Gandhi is scheduled to arrive in Tezpur at 11 in the morning. Then he would straightly leave for Biswanath Charilai to hold the rally. He would fly to Dibrugarh at 1-30 in the afternoon.      

Massive security arrangement is required in the entire district in view of NDFB-S militants’ 12 hour bandh to oppose Rahul Gandhi’s visit.

Rahul's rally in Assam is equally important. He has been strength of congress party and he has given its party a breakthrough. His efforts were transformed into actions.

One can see that Rahul Gandhi's popularity is rising day by day. He is very much popular among the young generation and also among the people at the grassroot level. He is putting good efforts in reaching out to people.

Guwahati: Top Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called Tarun Gogoi a political mentor as he paid his last respect to the former Chief Minister who passed away on Monday. Taking to media, Gandhi heaped praised on Gogoi saying that Gogoi could inject new hopes and aspirations for Assam and it's people who was least bothered about his personal life. Rahul Gandhi pays homage to Tarun Gogoi

Guwahati: Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi paid his tribute to Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday two days after the former Chief Minister breathed his last at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital. Gandhi, who arrived in the capital city from Goa at 9 in the morning straightly left for Gogoi's official residence in Dispur where he condoled the demise of the senior Congress leader. Accompanied by KC Venugopal and Jitendra Singh, Gandhi rushed to the Shankardev Kalakhetra where paid his last respect to Gogoi.  His mortal remains would be kept at the Shankardev Kalakhetra for Wednesday and would be cremated at Navagraga cremation ground on Thursday.

Guwahati: Veteran Congress leader and former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is dead. He passed away in the evening at Guwahati Medical College Hospital where he was undergoing treatment of post COVID complications. His condition deteriorated on Saturday as his organs did not properly respond to the line of treatment.

Congress files complaint against Himanta

Guwahati: State  Congress has filed a formal complaint against senior minister Himanta Biswa Sarma accusing him of trying to ignite communal clash by using a controversial video clip in social media.  A delegation of the party lodged the complaint at the Bhangagarh police station demanding action against Sarma as. Mangoldoi: AICC leader Jitendra Singh along with a few senior Congress leaders courted arrest in Mangoldoi as they were taking out a rally opposing the three farming bills.  At around 11 in the morning, Singh took the lead of the huge protest rally flanked by Ripun Bora, MPs Gaurav Gogoi, Pradyut Bordoloi in the town.  Policemen came and detained the Congress leaders and supporters.

Hold BTC polls by Nov 20:HC tells govt

Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court has asked the  state election authorities to hold the BTC polls by November 20. Hearing a PIL, a bench of the court has issued instruction to the authorities to hold it by November 20. Notably,  then polls were scheduled for April 4 following the end of the term of Hagrama Mohilary and his fellows. But it was suspended following the COVID19 endemic. Despite repeated appeals,  the authorities did not take any decision forcing BPF to move the court.
