UG Brahma takes oath as Cabinet minister

 of Assam cabinet minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma have expressed their excited and happiness having sworn in as Cabinet minister of Assam today in Guwahati.

Brahma was elected to the Assam assembly from Chapaguri constituency on UPPL ticket defeating BPF candidate Hitest Basumatary.

 Elder brother of UG Brahma,Putul Chandra Brahma has extended sincere thanks to the newly sworn chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

 UG Brahma was hailed from Chalani Batabari near Dotma in Kokrajhar district. Brahma was ex Rajya Sabha MP and former ABSU president.

 Elder brother of Brahma has expressed hopeful that newly formed government will  able to work for massive development and welfare of the citizens across the state.

He said that the new government must dedicate their services towards social integration and mass development in the state.

He said that citizens from the state are wanting healthy welfare and development among the society.

Meanwhile, several organisations of Bodoland Territorial Region including Nath Yogi Students Union,Sutradhar Sanmiloni and SC students union of BTR area have demanded inclusion of Lawrence Islary,MLA from Kokrajhar East constituency of UPPL party in the council of ministers of Assam cabinet which was sworn in today.

Leaders from the organisations demanded early induction of Islary in the Assam cabinet to represent the Kokrajhar district in the state.

Islary defeated senior BPF leader and former Assam minister Pramila Rani Brahma over 20 margin of votes in the assembly elections.

 Leaders urged the UPPL chief Pramod Boro and chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma to induct Islary in the Assam cabinet in days to come.

The All Bodo Students Union welcomes the formation of the New Government by the BJP, AGP & UPPL alliance in the state. 

In a press statement,ABSU president Dipen Boro has extended congratulation the elevated 15th Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and his team of Ministers who have taken oath today.

" The ABSU is hopeful the new Government in Assam will strive for the peace, harmony and all round development of the downtrodden communities and to address their issues and to strengthen the newly formed BKWAC in speedy manner in the state", ABSU said.

The BTR accord has many provisions to be implemented by government of Assam and Center. 

The All Bodo Students of (ABSU) urge the new government under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma as the chief minister will implement the entire BTR Accord clauses for the socio-economic and educational development in the Bodoland Territorial Region in letter and spirit.

The students union also congratulate all the MLAs from UPPL and the elevated two cabinet ministers Urkhao Gwra Brahma from 63 Chapaguri (ST) LAC and  Gabinda Chandra Basumatari from 69 Udalguri (ST) LAC.

ABSU also thank the people of BTR irrespective of communities for massive support in the exercise of democratic process of adult franchise in a peaceful manner and making the strong democracy,the statement said.

Engineering student’ strike continues

The engineering students kept striking in Kokrajhar for thr third consecutive day in protest against Assam Science & Technology University (ASTU) and demanded affiliation from Guwahati University to gain healthy education in the state.  The engineering students staged their strike in front of the college at Chandrapara in Kokrajhar, demanded affiliation under GU and urge the ASTU to stop playing with future of the students.   Agitated students with banner, placards staged the strike and shouted slogans demanding early solution of demands of the students . ABMSU unhappy with Lafikul murder probe

The All BTC Minority Students Union (ABMSU) has  expressed serious concern over the failure to arrest main culprits behind the assassination of Lafikul Islam in Kokrajhar on August 1.  Addressing a Press Conference held at Salakati on Thursday, Shakamal Khandakar, general secretary and Ajham Ali Sheik, vice president of the student's union said one month has passed since Lafikul was murder case. Engg students stage protest

Many engineering students staged dharna at the Bineswar Brahma Engineering College premises in Kokrajhar on Thursday demanding affiliation under Guwahati University without any delay.  Talking to Assam Times, agitating students asked the government to stop delaying tactics which would leave their career prospect in dire uncertainty. General Secretary of the union Hirakjyoti Kalita said that they have been on strike for a solution and that it would go on until it is resolved.

Hagrama takes on BJP chief

No involvement of Ex-BLT: Hagrama

BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary is well prepared to quit the office if one proves the involvement of former BLT rebels in the assassination of Lafikul Islsm Ahmed. Talking to reporters in Kokrakhar on Wednesday, Mohilary said the ongoing probes by SIT and CBI would be able to negate the speculations. “I am ready to resign as BTC chief if one proves the involvement of the former rebels.”

Students’ helping hands

In a rare example of kindness, the Students from Sangkhardev Sishu Vidhyaniketan in, Kokrajhar handed a cheque of Rs.10,000 over the BTC chief’s relief fund at a brief programme held at the Bodoland Guest House on Wednesday.   Students handed over the cheque to Hagrama Mohilary, BTC chief in the presence of teacher and media pesons. The amount was contributed by students to make aid to the relief fund.

One crushed to death in Kokrajhar

The Intercity (UP) crushed yo death s person in Kokrajhar district on Tuesday. Identified as  Bakul Barman, the 58 years old man was a resident of Somayee village under Sapatgram police station of Dhubri district. According to police, he was supposed to board the intercity train by 5 am in the morning and run over by the train.

Venture teachers staged dharna in Kokrajhar

Hundreds of venture school teachers from BTAD areas staged a five-hour dharna in front of DC office in Kokrajhar on Tuesday demanding steps to provincialize their schools and to, amend the DISE code as soon as possible. Organized by All BTC Venture Primary Teachers Association, the sit in was participated by the teachers of 2065 venture schools (Lower Primary and Upper Primary) in four districts of BTAD. In Kokrajhar district alone, there are 813 venture schools.  A memorandum was submitted to Kampa Borgoyary,Deputy Chief of BTC through Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar seeking early provincialisation of venture schools.  

BTC Assembly begins summer session

The  BTC Legislative Assembly has begun its summer session from Tuesday at Bodoland Assembly House in Kokrajhar. The session was chaired by Tridiv Daimary, speaker of the BTC Legislative Assembly. Summoned by thr Governor, the session begun with question hour on erosion and protection of water resources along Sangkoch River.
