Tarun Gogoi dead

Guwahati: Veteran Congress leader and former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is dead. He passed away in the evening at Guwahati Medical College Hospital where he was undergoing treatment of post COVID complications.

His condition deteriorated on Saturday as his organs did not properly respond to the line of treatment.

Army officer killed in ULFA-I attack

An army officer died and three other sustained serious injury when ULFA-I launched a dreaded attack on a convoy in Tinsukia district on Saturday. The insurgent outfit launched the attack by lobbing a powerful IED at a gipsy and a truck where the Kumano regiment jawan reached Pengeri on the way to Digboi. Identified as Multan Singh, the officer died on the spot and the three others have been rushed to the hospital where they were fighting with death. Top ranked police and para military arrived in the spot to be followed by a huge combing operation at a nearby dense jungle where the ULFA-I militants are believed to have been hiding.

FINER hails demonitisation

Federation of Industry & Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER) welcomes and support the move of withdrawing the Legal tender status of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000, by the government on. Hailing this demonetization move, FINER cautioned that the necessary follow – up has to be done by the Centre so that there are no lapses in the exercise that aims to curb black money¸ corruption and counterfeit currency, and the benefits outstrip collateral damages which is bound to happen in a decision of this magnitude. Small time traders, mostly in the unorganized sector have been hit by the move, but this is a temporary phase. It is a bold step by the centre but the follow up has to be done.

SK Sinha dead

Former Assam Governor (Red Lt Gen) SK Sinha passed at a hospital in New Delhi on Thursday. The end came at the Tata Referral Hospital at 1 in the afternoon where he was undergoing treatment for a couple of weeks. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal condoled Sinha’s death. In a statement, he said that the state has lost a true friend. Sonowal said that Sinha always stood by the people of Assam even after his departure from the state. He was Governor of Assam from 1997 to 2003.
