Raijor Dal on the doorstep

Guwahati: Altogether 70 local organizations who have been dead opposed to the Citizenship (Amendment) Act,  2019 floated a new regional political party with a vow to whitewash BJP and it's allies in the 2021 assembly polls. 

Named as Raijor Dal( Peoples'Party), it was announced at a largely attended ceremony presided over by award winning film maker Jahnu Barua,  who also is one of the leaders of Sangyukta Anchalik Dallas. 

In his opening speech, Barua said that the various regional parties should remain united to save the state and it's people from the edge.  

"We have seen the unity of these organization which needs to be galvanized into a force that can protect Assam-its identity and culture," said Baruah. 

The new party is preparing pitch in the prepoll political landscape by intensifying anti CAA, and anti-EIA protest apart from mounting pressure on the government to ensure release   of Akhil Gogoi.

Notably,  despite repeated appeal All Assam Students Union and AJYCP did not join the venture and launched AJP. Then the peasant body cobbled support from as many as 70 small organizations to float a new party which was born on Friday.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is firm on his stand on the land-swap deal with Bangladesh.Talkin to reporters in Guwahati on Monday, Gogoi said that 665 acre of state land was under the possession of the neighbouring country since Independence.He said, "we are working on this and now we will get back 397.5 acres from them."

The All Bodo Students’ Union finally ended its indefinite hunger strike with lemon water from the hands of Mangalsing Narzary.The decision was taken after the Centre invited them for tripartite talks on September 4. ABSU president Pramod Boro declared  withdrawal  of  their 52 hr long indefinite hunger strike on Saturday . The student leaders  now expects the Centre to show their sincerity on the issue and will not tolerate any kind of conspiracy.
Mumbai gangrape shocks Assam also. The photojournalists Association staged a silent protest against the brutal incident and demanded strict action against the culprits. Assam Photojournalists Association (APJA) staged a silent protest against the brutal gang-rape of a 23-year-old photojournalist in Mumbai and demanded strict action against the culprits.APJA demanded appropriate measures to ensure that such incidents are not repeated in future. The photojournalists staged the protest in front of Guwahati Press Club with their mouths covered by black clothes. Journalists from different organisations, both from print and electronic media, participated in the protest.
At least 40 people have fallen ill after consuming food at a religious function near Hajo in Kamrup district on Saturday. The individual religious  function took place at a house on Friday night. After the puja, the invitees consumed 'prasad' and started complaining of uneasiness. Over 40 people suffered from vomiting and loose motion. Altogether 10 persons have been released from the hospital while 30 others are undergoing treatment.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi stressed quality education, human resources, working conditions and infrastructure to make Guwahati University a front-ranking institute of the world.In his interaction with the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of Guwahati University, Dr Mridul Hazarika, he underscored the need to upgrade the status of the university and to enter into collaborations with foreign universities.
