Raijor Dal on the doorstep

Guwahati: Altogether 70 local organizations who have been dead opposed to the Citizenship (Amendment) Act,  2019 floated a new regional political party with a vow to whitewash BJP and it's allies in the 2021 assembly polls. 

Named as Raijor Dal( Peoples'Party), it was announced at a largely attended ceremony presided over by award winning film maker Jahnu Barua,  who also is one of the leaders of Sangyukta Anchalik Dallas. 

In his opening speech, Barua said that the various regional parties should remain united to save the state and it's people from the edge.  

"We have seen the unity of these organization which needs to be galvanized into a force that can protect Assam-its identity and culture," said Baruah. 

The new party is preparing pitch in the prepoll political landscape by intensifying anti CAA, and anti-EIA protest apart from mounting pressure on the government to ensure release   of Akhil Gogoi.

Notably,  despite repeated appeal All Assam Students Union and AJYCP did not join the venture and launched AJP. Then the peasant body cobbled support from as many as 70 small organizations to float a new party which was born on Friday.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday ordered intensified action against NDFB-S militants after they killed Sonitpur’s additional SP Guljar Hussain and a policeman at an encounter in Dhekiajuli in the morning.Talking to reporters at the Assam Assembly secretariat in Dispur, Gogoi said that the government won’t allow the Bodo militant outfits to carry out any attack further.

A powerful grenade explosion has left one person injured in Sivasagar town on Tuesday.The explosion took place at a house in Station Chariali at around 11 in the morning. Identified as Raju Ali, the injured has lost one of his hands under the impact of the explosion.The bomb was believed to have been brought to explode on the Republic day and was kept inside the house.Security forces rushed to the spot and sent the injured Ali to the Assam Medical College Hospital.         
Despite widespread resentment in the rank and file of Congress, Sanjay Singh filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha poll slated for February 7.Singh submitted his nomination papers in presence of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, APCC president Bhubneswar Kalita along with several ministers and Congress leaders before returning officer Gauranga Prasad Das. Singh is the party’s first choice candidate.

An additional superintendent of police was among two were killed in an encounter with NDFB-S in Sonitpur district on Tuesday.The encounter took place at Batashipur in Dhekiajuli along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh interstate border where additional SP Guljar Hussain and a policeman were killed. At least 6 other policemen were injured and they were shifted to the nearest hospital.Hussain has left behind a 3-year-old daughter and a 15 days old infant son.
Goalpara police seized five crude bombs from a house on Tuesday.The bombs were kept inside a house to be recovered during an operation conducted acting on the confessional statements of the ULFA militant recently captured in Guwahati.  
A lady ULFA leader is believed to have died under mysterious circumstances in Myanmar camp. She was none other than Anju Saikia alias Dalimi Dutta who hailed from Gaurisagar in Sivasagar district.But there is no confirmation either from ULFA or from the police.
