Guwahati: Altogether 70 local organizations who have been dead opposed to the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 floated a new regional political party with a vow to whitewash BJP and it's allies in the 2021 assembly polls.
Named as Raijor Dal( Peoples'Party), it was announced at a largely attended ceremony presided over by award winning film maker Jahnu Barua, who also is one of the leaders of Sangyukta Anchalik Dallas.
In his opening speech, Barua said that the various regional parties should remain united to save the state and it's people from the edge.
"We have seen the unity of these organization which needs to be galvanized into a force that can protect Assam-its identity and culture," said Baruah.
The new party is preparing pitch in the prepoll political landscape by intensifying anti CAA, and anti-EIA protest apart from mounting pressure on the government to ensure release of Akhil Gogoi.
Notably, despite repeated appeal All Assam Students Union and AJYCP did not join the venture and launched AJP. Then the peasant body cobbled support from as many as 70 small organizations to float a new party which was born on Friday.

In a setback for the Raijor Dal and its supporters, Supreme Court of India has rejected the bail plea of Akhil Gogoi, on Thursday. The KMSS leader and the president of the Raijor Dal moved the SC challenging the reject order passed by the Guwahati High Court. Hearing the plea earlier today, a three-judge bench of the SC comprising of Justice NV Ramana, Justice Surya Kant and Justice Aniruddha Bose denied bail to the activist.

In a horrific incident, a 40-year old man was lynched in a village of Karbi-Anglong on Sunday night.
As per reports, a mob of some villagers brutally assulted a man to death. The victim was identified as Monsing Rongpi. He was a resident of the Karashi Bey village under the Bakalia police station. The mob first took him to a football field where they tied him to a goalpost before beating him mercilessly. Due to the assult, Rongpi died at the spot, reports said. AJP president and Raijor Dal leader Bhaskar De Saikia said that they would maintain equidistance with AIUDF, Congress and BJP.

Guwahati: AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi and general secretary Jagdish Bhuyan visited Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi in Guwahati on Thursday amid the speculations of the move to forge alliance to fight against BJP and Congress.
The trio met at the Guwahati Medical College in the morning where the jailed peasant leader has been undergoing treatment.

Diphu: There is no breakthrough in the food poisoning case in Diphu 2 days after a BJP worker died and over 130 fell ill when they consumed packet launched served at a government function.
The food packets were rushed from Guwahati to serve the people who attended a ceremony to begin the academic session of the Diphu Medical College Hospital by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and health ministers Himanta Biswa Sarma and Piyush Hazarika.
