Novel on Lachit Borphukan released

A historic novel titled 'Mahanayak Lachit Borphukan' based on the life of great heroic character, Lachit Borphukan who fought against mighty Mughal, penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury, educationist and writer was released on 1st July, Sunday at Guwahati Press Club. Gracing the occasion senior journalist D.N. Chakraborty said while the heroic exploits of Chatrapati Shibaji and Maharana Pratap Singh had widely been discussed through text books and other writings in many languages, there had been little discussion and publicity about the incomparable heroism and unique leadership of the great Assamese warrior Lachit Borphukan.

Another speaker, Padmashree Ajay Dutta, ex MLA and social worker also paid tribute to Lachit Borphuan for his great leadership during the great battle of Sarighat..Writer Raychoudhury on his speech, narrated the contribution of father of Lachit Borphukan, Momai Tamuli Borborua for building up character of Lachit Borphukan.

Guwahati Press Club secretary, Nava Thakuria also spoke on the occasion as a guest of honour.The meeting was addressed by Bipul Sarma, Chandrajit Saikia and Rupam Baruah. The meeting was anchored by Namrata Dutta and vote of thanks was given by Ramkrishna Sarma. The book was published by Chandra Prakash

There is forecast of more rainfall to add to the flood woes in Guwahati. According to the Guwahati meterological centre, heavy rains would lash Guwahati during th last 12 hours. Heavy downpour accompanied by thunderstorm is likely to hit the premier north eastern city now caught in massive water logging. Rupnagar area alone has recorded 57 mm rainfall during the last 30 hours. 
The NDRF team deployed in relief and rescue operations in the flood-hit in Guwahati on Saturday fished out the body of Vivek Shah a day after the youth was washed away by the Bharalu  river. NDRF authority confirmed that Vivek’s boy was recovered from the Bharalu river in Bhangagarh in the morning a day after he was washed away from Anil Nagar on Friday. Rescue and releif efforts are also goining on in the worst-hit Anil Nagar, Chandmari, Nabin Nagar where rainwaters have been refusing to recede.  
The overall situation in Guwahati seems to have marginally improved on Saturday a day after many parts of the city was caught in the massive waterlogging, electrocution and landslides that claimed nine lives on Friday. Rainwaters start receding in some parts of the city while the low lying areas are yet to get out of the blues. Waters in Lachit Nagar, Bhangagarh, Rupnagar areas are receding rapidly. But Anil Nagar, Chandmari, Nabin Nagar are still reeling under rain waters. The situation could turn worse if rain revisits with the next 24 hours. The overall flood situation remains unchanged in Guwahati till Saturday morning where many parts of the city are reeling under the rain waters. The situation took a grave turn when 4 persons were killed in landslide in Bhangagarh apart from three death due to electrocution during the last 12 hours in Rajgarh and Dwaroka Nagar.  Debananda Konwar is all set to put in his papers as Tripura Governor on Saturday to again enter into the state politics in the ruling Congress. The vetern Congressman and former Assam minister is likely to tender his resignation before President Pranab Mukherjee in view of the Centre’s move to replace the governors appointed by the erstwhile UPA government.  Konwar was appointed as governor of Bihar a couple of years back and last year he was transferred to Tripura in the same capacity.  According to sources, Konwar who has a close assciation with Sonia Gandhi is likley to join politics again where Congress is enjoying absolute majority.
The Assam Public Service Commission has called off the combined competitive examination (mains) slated for Saturday to select the candidates for ACS, APS and allied services, a day after the commission mired in controversy over the alleged leak of question papers. The decision was taken after commission’s chairman SK Paul called on Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in the afternoon. According to the commission, the new schedule would soon be announced. 
New Delhi reiterates its efforts to bring Anup Chetia back to boost the peace process with ULFA. During her visit to Dhaka, minister for external affairs Sushma Swaraj raised the issue with the Bangladesh Government on Friday. She stressed the need to get the ULFA’s founder general secretary extradited at an earlier date. If the talks are successful, then Chetia would soon be able to come back to his motherland .           
Four persons lost their lives in shocking electrocution in Guwahati when the city was reeling in rainwaters on Friday. The first shocking death took place in Rajgarh area where an aged person was killed in electrocution. The second incident was further shocking where two persons died in Dwarokanagar near in the afternoon. Apart from these three incidents of electrocution, yet another person met watery grave on Friday. He was believed to have been washed away by the Bharalu river which is flowing dangerously following the incessant rains during the last couple of days.   
The Guwahati landslide toll has gone up to 4 with yet another person succumbed to injuries in the afternoon. The injured was rushed to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital on Thursday after she was injured when a huge wall slipped into her house atop Narkashur hills. Three of a family died and another seriously injured when a wall collapsed on a houses where they lived. The incident took place on Thursday midnight in Bhangagarh area where three persons were killed on the spot. The injured person was rushed to the GMCH to be succumbed to injuries in the afternoon. Incidents of landslide have been reported in Chandmari, Koinadhara and Hengrabari where several houses have been collapsed.
