Most Popular Sports in Assam

Sports is what brings people closer and teaches them about love and loyalty. Not only that, but numerous famous sportspersons have acted as role models to many young kids and motivated them to pursue their dreams, regardless of how difficult the road may be.

Assam is one of the states where sports are popular and it is one of the things that the state is well-known for, apart from its natural wildlife and archaeological sites. We wanted to take a closer look into this topic and name some of the most popular sports in Assam. Let’s check them out.

Betting on The Sports is Also Popular

One interesting thing that we wanted to mention on the sports topic, is that the residents here are also fond of placing bets on sports. In the most recent period, online bookmakers started gaining some popularity in Assam due to the fact that they have tons of great advantages over land-based facilities.

Popular betting sites such as https://sport.netbet.com/in/ boast great features such as easy access, 24/7 availability, numerous available sports to bet on, many accepted payment methods, as well as great security. All you have to do to gain access to all of these features is to register. The process is extremely fast and simple. You are just required to provide the sportsbook with some basic information about yourself.

It is expected that in the next couple of years, betting sites will completely take over the industry and become the biggest profit-makers. The only thing that players need to remember when accessing these sites is to wager on the sports responsibly.

Now, let’s take a look at the most popular sports in Assam.

Cricket

Cricket is not just one of the most popular sports in Assam, but generally in India. Thousands of people are keeping a close eye on this sport. Not only are many tournaments being held here, but the state also has its own professional team that is run by the Assam Cricket Association. The Assam cricket team’s first debut was in 1938. Their home ground is the ACA Stadium, which has a capacity of 40,000.

The Assam cricket team competes in the Ranji-Trophy tournament, the Twenty20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and the Vijay Hazare Trophy tournament. This sport has managed to influence every household which is why it takes the number 1 spot easily.

Football

Next up, we have the world’s most popular sports game. With an estimated fan base of over 2 billion people, football is without a doubt the most loved sport in the game. But, in Assam, it comes in second to cricket.

The state has a long and fruitful relationship with football as ithas its own football association. The Assam Football Association is one of the 36 Indian State Football Associations and it was founded in 1951. The football pyramid in Assam has two state leagues which are followed by many district leagues,

The two state-level leagues are the Assam Premier League and the Assam Club Championship, while the district leagues are GSA RG Baruah Super Division LeagueGSA A Division LeagueGSA B Division League, and GSA C Division League.

Chess

Finally, we have a surprising entry. Chess is a rather mind sports game that has tons of great benefits for your health. Just like with the two aforementioned sports, Assam has its own All Assam Chess Association that was formed in the late 1960s and it is officially accredited by the Fédération Internationale des Échecs.

It has numerous chess affiliations under its wing and some of these organizations are even able to send players to participate in the National and International chess tournaments.
