The Assembly elections in the state will be held in three-phases.

The polls for 126-member Assam assembly will be held on March 27, April 1 and April 6.

Results will be announced on May 2

Guwahati: Electronic Media Forum Assam (EMFA) expressed serious concern over the brutal attack on city based television journalist Chakrapani Parashar last evening by a group of vendors at Ganeshguri locality and demanded stringent actions against the culprits. The forum also urged the State government in Dispur to ensure security to media persons with enacting a special protection law at the earliest. Seven ULFA-I cadres surrenderd on Monday before police in Tinsukia. The cadres were identified as Barun Asom, Sourav Asom, Utpal Asom, Bosonto Asom, Ninja Asom, Mazid Moran and Shekharjyoti Asom. Police paraded the surrendered ULFA cadres before media on Tuesday.

ITANAGAR : The State Government has announced Ex-gratia of Rs 20 lakhs for diseased families with government job and Rs 10 lakhs for seriously injured person in the recent protest against government's consideration to give  PRC to 6 communities. Three  protesters were killed in  police firing and  fine others injured in the recent orgy of violence in the state capital. JORHAT: The toll in the spurious liquor tragedy refuses to halt even after the loss of nearly 200 people in Jorhat and Golaghat districts forcing the government to launch a massive crackdown against the illicit liquor traders.  According to information, at the Jorhat Medical College Hospital alone 97 deaths have been reported since Friday night and all these people were rushed from Salamira and Titabor areas.
