Tezpur university celebrates world environment day

5th June is celebrated as World Environment Day (WED) universally. This time the theme was “Seven Billion dreams, one planet, consume with care”. This is very truth. We all should take care of our planet. Like past couple of years this time also the Department of Environmental Science of Tezpur central University initiated to rejoice the special day. The celebration was two day long. Started on 4th June, 2015 and the day was full of competitive events among the energetic young’s.  The celebration was started with plantation programme at 8.00 am which was inaugurated by Prof. A. Kumar, Dean School of Sciences, TU. Numbers of saplings of different species like Black jamun, Neem, Mango are planted in the campus. The competitive event of the day was started with a poster competition and the theme “sustainable consumption”.  The second event was a drawing competition among the School students. There were two groups up to class V and above class V. The competition was a successful one. Lots of school students jointed to the event and the parents were also cooperating with the organisers to make it a grand success. Mr. Ratumoni Das, MFA and President awardee renowned artist of Tezpur was brighten the event as judge. It was a grand success to bring him for judging the event. I am overwhelmed to see the love of arts among the kids and their parents. It is a good signDas said.   There was an interesting event called “slogan competition”. The last event of first day was Photography Exhibition and Competition. It was very interesting. There was three category single submission, double submission and triple submission. The theme was Mother Nature. The quality of the photographs was very high. PJ Daimari, Asstt. Prof. of MCJ, TU was judged the event. “It was very critical to judge the photographs “Daimari said.  

On 5th June there was a Quiz competition and it was Open for all. The competition was hosted by Mr. Ashutosh Das, a renowned quiz master of TU. The cultural evening and the prize distribution ceremony was scheduled at 5.00 pm. In connection with the event a wall magazine was also brought by the students of the Department of Environmental Science titled “sustainable development” which was inaugurated by the chief guest of the closing programme Dr. Biren Das, Registrar, TU. In his inaugural speech he said “we can start the sustainable use from our home. We can develop the green passion from our home”. The students performed lots of attractive dance, songs, poetry etc. which was started by the classical dance of Dr. Pratibha Sharma, a Sattriya dance guru and Research Associate of the department. Her theme was prakriti puja. It was a dumbstruck performance. The programme was concluded with the vote of thanks.
