Sankardeb birth anniv gets underway

Nagaon is throbbing with the Saint Sankardev birth anniversary along with other parts of the state from Friday. The birth place of the neo Vaishnavism pioneer is holding a three day long 569^th anniversary with much traditional religious fervour.

The occasion got off to a colourful start on Friday morning with a number of competitions. Colourful and mesmerizing programmes gave the evening a fresh lease of life.

Thr second day programme began with a cultural procession in Batadrawa than, where the saint spent his early life. A neo vaishnsvite drama( bhaona) is also lined up towards the evening apart from 569 earthen lamps to mark the birth anniversary of the saint.

An open religious session is slated for Sunday in presence of Assam Governor  Banwarilal puruhit apart from education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, legislators Angoorlata Deka,Ramakanta Deuri,Rupak Sharma.
