Revive Garo Hills roads and bridges
Ravaged roads and bridges have been causing no less inconvenience for the people in the North Garo Hills for the last couple of years. Repeated requests for fresh look have been fallen on deaf ears. This has forced the Garo Students Union (GSU) of the Northern Zone to hit the streets on Saturday demanding steps to repair the roads and bridges from Mendipathar to Gajingpara in the district. The student organization claimed that the construction allotted to CII International Limited has failed to start its work. The union has taken up the matter with the authorities. But their plea has not been heard.
Left with no other option, the union had served a 7 days ultimatum to the district administration and PWD (roads).
On August 19, the district administration called for a meeting and assured the union, developing committee in the district, sordars and village head that the construction would begin from the first week of September.
The union urged the government to look into the matter for the interest of the people of North Garo Hills and expedite the construction, which has been delayed for years.
